Solar and Lunar Eclipses of 2010:

Solar Eclipse — Jan 15, 2010 — 25 Capricorn 01

Lunar Eclipse — Jun 26, 2010 — 04 Capricorn p46 - (see below for more details)

Solar Eclipse — Jul 11, 2010 — 19 Cancer 24

Lunar Eclipse — Dec 21, 2010 — 29 Gemini 21

The above eclipses will be felt most directly by you, if your Sun, Moon, or Acendant are in the early degrees of the Cardinal signs: Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn

What are Eclipses?

Our Moon revolves around planet Earth, which in turn revolves around our Sun. (I use "our" to distinguish it from Moons which are around other planets and potential other Suns).

A Lunar Eclipse = when Earth is located between the Moon and the Sun blocking the light of the Sun from illuminating the Moon. For this to happen Earth, the Sun and the Moon all have to be aligned. Hence a Lunar Eclipse can only occur with a Full Moon.

Full moons by their nature are times of endings and an Eclipse adds emphasis to this theme. Lunar eclipses are concerned with our more hidden depth emotions as the internal reflective nature of the Moon is overshadowed by the Earth. Our consiousness struggles at this time to illuminate our emotional depths, as we swim in the boundless oceans of the unconscious. This is a good time to allow ourselves to be true to our feelings. Music and other artistic  mediums offer us a container for the spiritual and imaginative Neptunian realms. The boundaries between the conscious and unconscious seem thinner at this time, on an individual and collective level, allowing what has been emotionally repressed to come to the surface and be released. We are likely to reassess our emotional connection to ourself and others, including our relationships with family, friends and partners. Ultimately we are seeking a deeper connection with our soul self, and being true to our feelings, whatever they are, is the easiest path.

Lunar Eclipse — Jun 26, 2010 — 04 Capricorn

The particularly powerful nature of this eclipse was due to the conjunction between the Moon and Pluto opposing the Sun and Mercury squaring Uranus and Jupiter on one side and Saturn on the other. Each of these gods vied for attention in the sky, inviting us to release old emotional fears related to thought patterns that are no longer authentic and of any real use to us. With the North Node in Capricorn and the South Node in Cancer, our collective journey currently involves dealing with the laws of nature including facing the concrete consequences of our actions as individuals and as a collective.

This is a wonderful time to clear out and release any aspect of our life that is hindering us from being the most real and highest version of ourselves, in preparation for the Solar Eclipse on July 11th. (The effects of this eclipse will continue over the next few months).

A Solar Eclipse = when the Moon is between Earth and the Sun, covering part or all of the Sun. At this time we are left in temporary darkness as our emotions come to the fore, enabling us to release what is no longer authentic to us, in preparation for taking action when the Sun shines its full light once again. Solar Eclipses can only occur when there is a New Moon.  It is a time of preparation as we get ready to take action with renewed awareness and consciousness, as we embark on new beginings in the areas of life affected by the Eclipse.

Solar Eclipse — Jul 11, 2010 — 19 Cancer 24

The Moon in Cancer combined with the Sun, brings potential compassion for ourself and others. This can enable us to continue making needed changes freeing us of the past and supporting us in taking the required practical action that will bring us into the future as Mars trines the Nodes.

Previous eclipses on this degree:

10 Jan 2001 19.39 Cancer

12 July 1991 19.58 Cancer

10 January 1982 19.14 Cancer)

Eclipses return to the same astrological sign every 18 years approximately and to the opposite sign every 9 years. As they return to the same point, similar themes in your life will be revisited, allowing further clearing out and resolutions to occur.

Why are the Eclipses of 2010 particularly important?

The current eclipses are rather more complex than usual because they are participating with other major planetary configurations in the skies, creating a Cardinal Grand Cross which reaches its climax on July 30th  and Aug 6th of this year. Everyone will feel some impact from these transits at a collective and individual level. However, it is important to remember that the planets do not determine how we each choose to live out the energies. They merely outline the nature of the energies. As humans we are gifted with free will and hence, the nature of the manifestation of planetary energies is dependent on our individual and collective choices. The more conscious our choices, the less likely we are to be pulled and pushed by the collective unconscious.
